On Saturday, July 13, right after the NERT drill, nearly 40 Paseo neighbors convened at the Clubhouse for a presentation by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and sponsored by our vigilant NERT team. The speakers (there were four) gave us with a superabundance of information, both oral and written. The high spot was a dynamite female presenter who was incredibly knowledgeable and very entertaining. She gave us so many tips and suggestions about fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, CO2 alarms, even throw rugs (which she urged us to THROW away)! Of special interest was something called the Vial of Life, which is a large plastic medicine bottle to be stored in the fridge (because refrigerators are fire-resistant), and containing vital emergency information such as name, insurance, physician, types of medications, and much more. The Vial of Life is provided by Stanford Hospital and Clinic Aging Adult Services. You can get one by calling (650) 498-6312. More information is available on the Vial of Life Web page of the Santa Clara County Fire Department at http://www.sccfd.org/pub_ed/vial_of_life.html. Available for download below are copies of the Earthquake Preparedness Tips flyer that was handed out on Saturday. NERT has requested that the Periodico publish the flyer, to ensure that all residents have a copy. Please read it, tear it out, and post it in a prominent place for future reference. Of particular importance is the Emergency Supplies Checklist. We should all have these items plus at least a basic first aid kit easily available. (Apologies for the quality of the printing; the pages are scanned.)
