NEW INFORMATION FOR THE PARK: At the September Board meeting, I will be requesting permission from the Board of Directors to trap all animals in the park that are not on a leash. We are experiencing flea infestations on both greens and around a lot of homes, including homes that do not have pets. This is caused by feral cats and wild animals such as possums, raccoons, and an occasional skunk that roam the park at night. The only long-term answer is to trap these animals and get them out of the park. I will recommend to the trapper that the cats that are caught be sent to shelters to find them new homes but the possums, raccoons and skunks will be removed and checked for rabies. Raccoons are the most commonly rabid animal in North America at this time, so when you see one, report it to the office right away. We are getting some reports that they are coming over to the park from the Tech park behind us, as there is food and water back there. I haven’t seen a raccoon in the park for a couple of years. Once in awhile I hear that someone smelled the scent of a skunk, but the skunks don’t make the park their home. We seem to have a lot of possums in the park and they eat snails, etc. so they are not harmful, other than spreading fleas. There are residents of the park who are allergic to fleas, so we must get them removed also. Before all this happens, I need to obtain permission from the Board of Directors and I will be putting out a flyer to all residents that tells when the trapping will start. We still have residents who signed the rules and regulations form when they moved in, but think that the rules do not apply to them. When and if their animals are trapped they will be very upset that they didn’t keep their cats inside. I get reports every month and have experienced it at my house when they use other residents property as their toilet. KEEP YOUR CATS ON A LEASH WHEN OUTSIDE AND KEEP THEM INDOORS. Also, I want to clarify the swimming pool rules so everyone understands. You can only have 4 guests at the pool per home, not 8 guests, if two people live in the home. Please request permission if you need to have more than 4 guests, per our rules. Do not let your guests dive or jump into the pool, and they need to sign a hold harmless form before swimming!
